Cultural Arts Division (Studio AD) Promotes Wig Cultur

Entertainment Wig Culture

The Shiki Theater Company brought the musical "Cats" to the stage in Japan in 1983. The development of wigs that could withstand the vigorous dancing in "Cats" was a cooperative effort between staff at Aderans and the hair and makeup artists and costume designers at the theater company at that time.
Our very own wigs for the performing arts, later helping to realize such headlining stage productions in Japan as "Phantom of the Opera" and "Beauty and the Beast", have also been used in non-theater applications, including a variety of movies and television shows as well as concerts. We advocate the wig culture in Japan through our provision of wigs for various culture and entertainment activities. The culture and entertainment department at Aderans is called Studio AD, a group of experts in wig and hair and makeup.

Started Joint Research on Novel Hair Materials to Contribute Sustainable Society
Utilizing Structural Proteins Originally Developed by Spiber Inc.

We started joint research and development on new hair materials with Spiber Inc. (Head Office: Tsuruoka City, Yamagata Prefecture, Director and Representative Executive Officer: Kazuhide Sekiyama) by utilizing structural proteins originally developed by Spiber.
Spiber conducts cutting edge R&D devoted to the commercialization of sustainable structural protein materials as a new cornerstone material of industry, all to push forward its mission: contributing to innovative solutions to global issues.
What motivates our collaboration is not just the innovative use of bio-produced protein materials, but more fundamentally, the shared passion for contributing to people's happiness.
Petroleum that serves as their raw material is an exhaustible resource. Looking ahead to the next 100 years, we felt that it is necessary to find renewable alternatives, we will continue to create hair materials that will be a new option and not depend on depleted resources.

Presenting Research Findings on the Analysis of Minerals in Hair at the 8th International Symposium on Metallomics (ISM-8)

At the ISM-8 in July 2022, we presented research findings on the analysis of minerals in hair.
On July 12 during the symposium, Hiroaki Kitamura from Aderans (Researcher and Leader, R&D Department) gave a poster presentation titled “Challenges in measuring minerals in hair as a health indicator,” sharing the results of research conducted by the company on the analysis of minerals in hair.

Presenting the Discovery of Distinctive Proteins in Alopecia Patients at the 12th World Congress for Hair Research (WCHR 2022)

At the WCHR 2022 in November 2022, we presented the successful identification of distinctive proteins in alopecia patients by using the technology to conduct the proteome analysis of hair.
We have worked to develop a technology that enables us to extract and analyze various components of hair, such as minerals and amino acids, in an accurate and efficient manner. By combining this technology and deep learning, which has been showing remarkable progress in recent years, we have established the proteome analysis of hair, a method of detecting numerous proteins contained in hair. Through this research using the proteome analysis of hair to find key proteins in alopecia, we were able to discover TGM3 as a potential substance.
Looking ahead, we aim to identify proteins that are associated with TGM3 and find more about the functions of TGM3 in hair, through which we would like to take a step closer to our dream of offering a new solution to alopecia.

Participated in "Hair Diagnostic Consortium" as a secretary corporation

In December 2017, we participated in the "Hair Diagnostic Consortium" as a secretary corporation.
The "Hair Diagnostic Consortium" is a project that was established and started on April 1, 2017 by the RIKEN R&D Institute. It is a collaborative research project aimed at building big data based on scientific evidence for the establishment of a diagnostic system. It is to establish a new, non-invasive diagnostic system based on health indicators and disease indicators accumulated in the hair. We will make use of our knowledge as a leading company of comprehensive hair enterprises and seek to realize a simple and fast physical examination system and hair screening.

Aderans' New Artificial Hair Research Presentation
Received "Best Paper Award in the Field of Textile Materials"

At the "14th Asian Textile Conference," held in June 2017, we announced research results that showed a combination of light reflectance characteristics (glossiness) close to human hair, and the strength and rigidity required for artificial hair for a wig, are achieved by optimizing the manufacturing conditions of composite fiber. And we received the "Best Paper Award: Textile Material (Best Paper Award in the Field of Textile Materials)." The Asia Textile Conference is a forum to announce the latest research results on textiles and fabrics. It is held every other year as a platform for nurturing global scientists and researchers.
